IGN updated this weekend with a tasty bit of 3D news – Tetsuya Mizuguchi, father of Rez, Space Channel 5 and all things cool, all but confirmed that his latest brainchild Child of Eden would be 3D enabled when it ships for the PlayStation 3 later this year.
Mizuguchi spilled the stereoscopic beans during a live Q and A session at the Euro comic convention Kapow! Comic-Con, and while he didn’t directly say the game would support 3D, he was very enthuastic about the idea for at least the PlayStation 3 version (the XBox 360 version ships first this June with Kinect support).
Child of Eden’s trippy visuals would be well worth the wait for 3D in my opinion. Hey Miz, how about a 3D enabled Rez while you’re at it?
Disney Interactive announced today that it’s upcoming summer movie tie-in Cars 2 will sport a 3D enabled mode only on the PlayStation 3. Cars 2 is Disney’s second 3D title – the company shipped Tron Evolution last holiday season. The PlayStation 3 version of Cars 2 will also sport a 3D 4 player split screen mode – so start saving for those extra glasses now!
Cars 2 is scheduled to launch on June 21, 2011. Don’t worry XBots and Wiitards – your version will ship at the same time, just sans 3D.
We’ve also heard rumblings of a Nintendo 3DS port that would launch around the same time Cars 2 comes home to Blu-Ray 3D this Fall. Stayed tuned (up) for more info!
It’s been on our DigitalNipples PlayStation 3D list for months, but Insomniac Games made it official via Sony’s PlayStation Blog – Resistance 3 will feature both Move and 3D support.
Resistance 3 follows the story of Joseph Capelli, a discharged sentinel traveling from Oklahoma to New York taking on the aftermath of the Chimeran invasion.
Insomniac also recently announced that their now annual Ratchet and Clank sequel will also feature 3D visuals when it ships this holiday.
What other blockbuster sequels would you like to see sport 3D support? Leave a comment below, we’d love to hear your ideas!
This week’s Blu-Ray 3D release include a pair of IMAX disc and a Disney animated 4 pack – not to shabby if you ask me.
Starring Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore, Tangled is one of those rare non-Pixar Disney gems that is not only pretty to look at, but also provides quite a few laugh worthy moments. This 4 disc bundle is packed to the brim with extras and proves Disney is taking the 3D market very seriously. Kudos Disney, and keep em coming!
This pair of IMAX Blu-Rays round out this week’s Blu-Ray 3D releases. Mummies – Secret of the Pharaohs features the voice of legendary big screen actor and Sith lord Christopher Lee while Ultimate G’s is narrated by Michael Cera… yes, Scott Pilgrim himself.
Dynasty Warriors 7 is the lone gaming 3D entry this week. You know the drill – this button smasher has been around since the PlayStation 2 launch, and while the formula might have worn out it’s welcome years ago, this edition seems to have a positive buzz going for it.
Check back next week for more 3D releases – and don’t forget to pre-order the super swank edition Identity Disc collection of Tron and Tron: Legacy before it’s too late!
Sony updated their PlayStation Blog today with this fun little graphic/piece of 3D propaganda showing why PlayStation is the destination for 3D entertainment.
A few interesting tidbits include that 20 percent of Killzone 3 demo downloaders opted for the 3D version and over 80,000 horny 3D TV owners were disappointed with the dreadfully boring Sports Illustrated 3D Swimsuit tease.

Hey Boo Boo, what 3D flick stars Dan Aykryod and Justin Timberlake and is a complete train wreck? It doesn’t take the smarts of an above average bear to figure out Yogi Bear is the lone Blu-Ray 3D release this week. It’s on sale this week at Amazon for $29.99, but even at that price you might want to think twice and invest those 3D dollars towards a Nintendo 3DS.
Speaking of which, 3D gaming gets a huge push this week with the release of Nintendo’s 3D super handheld, and with over 15 launch titles, gamers have a lot to be excited about. Instead of posting images for every single release, you can check out the full list on Amazon by clicking this link. Frugal gamers take note – Toys R Us is running a Buy One Get One 50 percent off sale starting this Sunday.
PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 owners also have a big 3D release this week – Crysis 2 ships to retail fully 3D enabled. The verdict is still out on this futuristic shooter, but it’s PSN 3D demo is extremely underwhelming.
What 3D movies/games do you plan to pick up this week? Leave a comment below and remember, friends don’t let other friends buy Yogi Bear 3D.
Samsung is getting serious about 3D. The Korean based television manufacture officially launched it’s 3D streaming app in it’s home country today bringing a whole new slew of 3D content to South Korean Samsung TV owners. Movie trailers, music videos and educational films kicked off the festivities, but Dreamworks Animation exclusive feature length movies are expected to follow in the near future.
Don’t live in South Korea? Don’t fret, Samsung plans to launch the 3D app worldwide by Summer.
Having a Mitsubishi set has left me jealous of all these 3D exclusives. What 3D content are you currently enjoying?
Sure, you may have watched the Uncharted 3 trailer before – but now you can see it… wait for it… in 3D!
Sony updated the PlayStation Store tonight with a surprise treat – a 3D enabled trailer of the upcoming three-quel Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog’s third installment of the hit franchise has been called “the Avatar of 3D gaming” by multiple members of the press and this 3D enabled trailer definitely shows us why.
Uncharted 3 is scheduled to ship for the PlayStation 3 this November. If previous Sony releases are anything to go by, expect a decked out collector’s edition up for pre-order soon.
Boot up those 3D enabled Blu-Ray players! This week’s 3D releases are a pair of IMAX releases, and thanks to Amazon’s price guarantee, both are a steal at around 15 bucks!

Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia is prehistoric 3D adventure that proves size really does matter. Donald Sutherland narrates a 40 minute computer generated documentary about the largest dinosaurs to ever roam the earth.

Finally, the 3D drought is over! This week we have two major 3D enabled releases, THQ’s DeBlob 2 and Sony’s Killzone 3.
DeBlob is the sequel (hence the number two in it’s title) to the once exclusive Nintendo Wii adventure. Players are encouraged to paint their black and white world whichever way they please, mixing music and bright visuals to bring on a techno color revolution. Expect a full 3D review soon!
After checking out the 3D enable multiplayer and single player modes, we’re convince – Killzone 3 is the Avatar of 3D gaming. Once you experience the game on a 3D set, there’s no going back, take our word for it!
With less than a month to go till the Nintendo 3DS launch and a slew of Bu-Ray 3Ds scheduled to ship in March, keep your eyes peeled here for the latest 3D enabled news, reviews and more!
“Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this Earth”
Ok, so quoting Lou Gehrig’s final speech may be a little over the top, but we here at DigitalNipples are down right giddy with today’s PSN update – an exclusive 3D enable Sports Illustrated Swimsuit video.
“Swimsuit in 3D” is available for rental ($4.99) or purchase ($9.99) starting today, but don’t worry, there’s also a 3 minute freebie clip for the curious.
